As Robert Feder reported back in May, I'll get a chance to recharge my batteries as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard during the coming academic year. The fellowship starts in late August. I plan to be back in the Tribune's pages in July 2013. After people hear about this amazing opportunity for a mid-career break, they invariably ask: "Who's going to replace you?"
Here's the answer: two highly-qualified journalists who can be counted upon to provide excellent coverage of architecture, urban design and historic preservation issues:
–Chicago architecture critic and author Cheryl Kent will be responsible for architecture criticism, including critiques of new buildings and evaluations of major design plans.
Kent has been writing about architecture, design and cities for more than 30 years. Her articles have appeared in the Tribune and in such publications as The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, Architectural Record, Metropolis and the now-defunct Progressive Architecture, for which she served as Chicago correspondent.
