As many home and garden projects go, a small repair or improvement often mushrooms into something much more extensive. Such was the case with Shorewood residents Alan Freysinger and Sheila Beck when a rotting tree needed to be removed. That led to a complete overhaul of their urban landscape, providing a peaceful spot that seems miles away from the city.
“The whole project started as something small. But to access the tree, I would have to go through a neighbor’s yard. I thought if we are going to do this, we should do something about the entire back yard. What we wanted was more outdoor living space as well as a view to enjoy year-round,” said Freysinger, who is an architect and co-owner of Design Group III.
For help, he turned to Bill Wandsnider, owner of Wandsnider Landscape and a fellow member of Milwaukee/NARI.
“As a designer, I had ideas of what it would look like. Hiring somebody like Bill, who really understands the nature of what he is doing, adds a whole level of detail and refinement,” Freysinger said.
